Thesis: ARCHIMEDES MINE
Derek Eaton – Lieutenant, United States Navy
Master of Science in Applied Physics – September 2023
Advisor: Emil P. Kartalov, Ph.D, Department of Applied Physics
In nominating LT Eaton for this award, NPS provided the following statement:
He has done outstanding work in a challenging project, in both theoretical and experimental directions pursued in parallel and on a very accelerated and short timescale, while simultaneously building prototypes, machining parts, designing 3D printed components, and running COMSOL simulations. His experimental results from field tests of the prototypes are very encouraging and potentially extremely impactful in practice. The fact alone that LT Eaton was working successful field-tested prototypes within six months of the activation of the funding is a testament to his ability and dedication.
The Naval Submarine League joins Naval Postgraduate School in congratulating LT Eaton on his award.
